Credit and Collections Manager

Job Summary

The Credit and Collections Manager will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and supporting the performance and productivity of the credit and collections department. This individual coordinates all the activities within the department, including the daily management of all credit and collection processing. This individual ensures the accurate reporting of key collection data, as well as the timely collection of delinquent customer payments in accordance with company policies, processes and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the overall credit function
  • Design and implement processes and procedures to improve cash flow and reduce receivables
  • Develop tools and processes to provide critical financial and operational information and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations related to credit
  • Establish and maintain daily management measurements to optimize invoice to cash cycle with metrics on Cash Collection, DSO, Aged AR, Unapplied Cash, AR Reserve, and/or other relevant KPIs
  • Prepare monthly management reports and comparisons to budget with respect to collections
  • Evaluate existing systems/processes to reduce complexity and increase process standardization
  • Create and maintain procedural manual for credits and collections.
  • Manage monthly closing activities, including review and approval A/R-related account reconciliations on a timely basis.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with federal, state and local credit and information requirements
  • Coordinate the preparation and review of year-end reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Troubleshoot and resolves non-routine credit/collection issues and effectively respond to escalated issues
  • Coordinate accounts receivable-related information requests from external auditors
  • Support employee development including mentoring and coaching supervisory staff to achieve performance expectations, providing effective communication and collaboration, maintaining a customer focus, and supporting a continuous improvement environment
  • Cross-trains departmental staff and co-ordinates their efforts for a more effective and efficient work flow.
  • Provide departmental support and assists collection analysts as necessary
  • Work closely with the Sales and Billing Department to implement policies and procedures that contribute to accurate invoicing
  • Collaborate with multiple levels of management including Finance, Sales, Customer Service, Marketing and Information Technology

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Minimum seven to ten (7 – 10) years relevant industry experience required
  • Minimum three to five (3 – 5) years of experience in a management level accounting position preferred
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office applications, primarily Excel
  • Broad range of experience with credit/collection management, automated accounting systems, account reconciliation, month-end closing and year-end reporting
  • Extensive knowledge of a variety of collection techniques, practices, processes, policies and procedures
  • Working understanding of collection laws and regulations
