Riddell wins at Edison Awards Gala on April 30 in San Francisco
InSite Co-Developer Simbex is Honored with Riddell in Applied Technology- Protective Systems Category
San Francisco, CA – June 11, 2014 – The Edison Awards, celebrating 27 years of honoring the best in innovation and excellence in the development of new products and services, announced today that the leader in football helmet technology and innovation, Riddell, has been named a 2014 Gold Edison Award Winner for its InSite Impact Response System. Notably, InSite beat out award entries from others in the head protection industry to win Gold in the Applied Technology-Protective Systems category. Simbex, a product development firm whose focus is to bring nascent technologies from ideation to the marketplace, is a co-developer of the InSite and joins Riddell as a Gold award recipient.
Being recognized with an Edison Award has become one of the highest accolades a company can receive in the name of innovation and business. The awards are named after Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) whose inventions, new product development methods and innovative achievements literally changed the world, garnered him 1,093 U.S. patents, and made him a household name around the world.
“Our judges recognized Riddell InSite Impact Response System as a true innovator out of the many products in its category,” said Frank Bonafilia, executive director of the Edison Awards.
The ballot of nominees for the Edison Awards™ was judged by a panel of more than 3,000 leading business executives including past award winners, academics and leaders in the fields of product development, design, engineering, science and medical.
“We are honored that Riddell and InSite have received the highest recognition from the Edison Awards and its judges during this process,” said Thad Ide, Riddell’s senior vice president of research and product development. “We believe advancements in smart helmet technology like Riddell InSite will play a vital role in the future of football as we work to improve the protection and performance of those that play.”
A new integrated monitoring and alerting tool designed specifically for the high school and youth levels, InSite alerts sideline staff when significant single and multiple impacts are sustained during a football game or practice. Coaches and trainers now have an extra set of eyes on the field to help with identification and management of potential concussions on the field of play.
In addition to the Awards Gala, the annual Edison Awards program encompassed multiple events over a two-day period including a comprehensive “Meet the Innovators Forum,” a fun reception at San Francisco’s new “Exploratorium,” and the “Innovators’ Showcase,” which offered guests a hands-on experience with many of the winning products.
