As senior vice president, research & product development of Riddell, Inc., Thad Ide is charged with overseeing the Engineering, Product Development and Quality Assurance departments.
Mr. Ide first joined Riddell, Inc. in 1992 as director of engineering and rejoined the company in 2000 after holding engineering management positions with sports equipment manufacturers Schutt Sports Group and Nike and with Southern Impact Research Center, a personal protective equipment consultancy.
Currently holding more than a dozen patents on behalf of Riddell, Mr. Ide has worked extensively to increase the protective benefits of athletic equipment. He has extensive interaction with the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE), the principal standards making body for football and baseball equipment, and co-authored peer-reviewed academic research along with faculty of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) (Neurosurgery, February 2006, Vol. 58, No. 2.). Mr. Ide also works closely with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Subcommittee on Headgear.
Mr. Ide holds both a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in applied mechanics from Michigan State University.
