Football head protection leader will provide on-field equipment for the newly announced bowl game

Riddell today announced a partnership to become the ‘Official Protective Equipment Partner’ for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Legacy Bowl. The newly created postseason all-star game will showcase some of the best NFL draft-eligible players from HBCUs. Announced in March by the Black College Football Hall of Fame, the Legacy Bowl will be hosted in New Orleans, LA with the inaugural game being played in February 2022 and will broadcast live on the NFL Network.
“We’re very excited to bring the Riddell family on board as our Official Protective Equipment Partner for the HBCU Legacy Bowl,” said Black College Football Hall of Fame Co-Founder and Inductee, Doug Williams. “Having worn Riddell during my own career, I know how much the brand cares about on-field protection and growing the game we all love, so it was a perfect partnership for us.”
As part of the agreement, Riddell will provide a mix of state-of-the-art helmets and pads for all Legacy Bowl players. Riddell joins Tulane University, the NFL, 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, the Allstate Sugar Bowl, and the NFL Hall of Fame as participating sponsors of the game.
“It truly is an honor to be one of the founding sponsors of the Legacy Bowl,” said Kyle Borland, VP of Sales at Riddell. “The event will provide great exposure for HBCU coaches and players, and even more importantly, will be a fantastic celebration of Black athletes and culture leading up to the game. We’re really excited to be a part of it.”
The Legacy Bowl partnership further underscores Riddell’s ongoing commitment to player protection and championing the future of the sport within all communities. Riddell is advancing the game through work with its many grassroots partners including the NFL, USA Football, Pop Warner, WNFC and more.
As leaders in the football community, Riddell also continues to give back through efforts like Smarter Football. Since the inception of the program, Riddell has recognized and rewarded 55 football programs for their contributions to the game and has donated more than $650,000 in equipment grants to teams in need of new equipment.
